The book is a collection of fifty sketches, mini-reports and short reflections from the numerous journeys Sándor Márai made in the 1920s and 1930s as a correspondent writing regularly for Hungarian and German newspapers (he worked for several years with Frankfurter Zeitug und Handelsblatt, among others).
