A work containing 135 original lithographs, each with a long description of an episode in Napoleon's life. The work begins with the Consulate and ends with the Emperor's death on St. Helena. Jean-Baptiste Madou (1796-1877), Belgian painter, illustrator, lithographer and engraver. He belongs to the Romanticism movement and played an important role in the development of lithographic art, especially through his collaboration with the printer Jobard. Binding brown half-leather with green chiffons on the spine, some rubbing of the binding and loosening of the block; traces of dampstaining and staining, a few plates with heavy staining; 7 plates missing.
