[LUBOMIRSKI Jerzy]. Signature of Jerzy Lubomirski as vice curator of the Ossolineum under a handwritten letter of recommendation issued to August Bielowski, dated in Lvov, 1847.
Single-sided manuscript on ark. 34.6x21.4 cm. In the upper part an elaborate heraldic vignette with the inscription "Zaklad Naukowy Imie Ossolińskich in Lwow". Jerzy Lubomirski, on behalf of the Ossolineum, asks establishments and scholarly societies, as well as private owners of manuscript collections to allow "access" to them to August Bielowski, "honorably known in our literature", "a man of right and upright character". The goal of Bielowski's research was a "pragmatic edition of the sources of Polish historiography," which was realized as "Monumenta Poloniae Historica." The letter ends with the assertion: "If H.E. Bielowski borrows what from which library or archive, the Department vouches for the return, takes the costs of transcription, postage, etc. on himself, and for his helpfulness will not fail to give public thanks in his place." Traces of folding, slight folding of the sheet.
