Missing preface card, 2 maps and 1 plate in vol. 1 and 3 maps in vol. 2. Inside stains in places, pencil notations and small traces of moisture. Owner's signature. "Andrzej Marczuk", "Przegaliny 19 XII 1904" (a manor house in the Lublin region). Presented copy includes two lithographed maps of the world, a map of North America, one intaglio view, woodcuts in the text. Description of individual countries of all continents including history of land, inventions, geographical, historical and economic characteristics of countries. Co-authored by Tomasz Dziekoński - compiled the first edition of the work, which was published in 1843. Pawel Eustachy Lesniewski (1794-1855) - educator, writer, naturalist wrote only the second volume. Contains: volume 1: Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Vatican City; volume 2: Austrian Empire, Prussia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Turkey, Greek Kingdom, America, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Australia and Oceania and selected countries of Asia and Africa. In addition, vol. 2 (pp. 206-222) contains information on the Kingdom of Poland including a description of the geography, inhabitants (origin, population, states, industry, religion, sciences and crafts), historical sketch on Warsaw (with a view of the Sigismund's Column).
