Lugd[uni] Batav[orum] [= Leiden] 1686. apud Petrum vander Aa. 8, pp. [14], 341, [11], plate 7, frontispiece in copperplate. binding somewhat late card.
Trace of moisture in corner of some pages, otherwise good condition. A small fragment of the frontispiece crossed out. Medical treatise on women and gynecology. Its author J. B. Lamzweerde (Lamsweerde) was a physician active in Amsterdam and Cologne, a professor at the University of Cologne, and a lecturer on the art of preparation. He was a fierce enemy of Descartes; he accused him of taking all his scientific achievements directly from the ancients. The frontispiece to the book was stenciled by A. Schoonebeek; the scene depicted here shows medics discussing, with a woman in childbirth visible in the background. On the spine a gilt signboard with titlepage.
