KRAJEWSKI Robert, KUBISZYN Robert - Eagles' nests and Jurassic strongholds

Eagles' Nests is a system of medieval castles, once guarding the border of the Polish Kingdom. Most of the castles in the area were built on the hard-to-reach limestone rocks (in the likeness of eagles' nests) of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, probably by order of KingCasimir the Great in order to protect Krakow in case of invasions by the Czech army of John of Luxembourg from Upper Silesia, which occurred in 1327 and in 1345.
