The Bar Confederation (1768-1772) - an armed union of Polish nobility formed in Bar, Podolia, on February 29, 1768, with the swearing in of a charter in defense of the Catholic faith and the independence of the Republic, directed against: the tutelage of the Russian Empire, King Stanislaw August Poniatowski and the Russian troops supporting him. The goal of the confederation was to abolish laws imposed by Russia, especially those giving equal rights to dissenters.
