"SOURCE OF THE PARTITION OF POLAND" This work, whose guiding thesis was the view of the inspirational role of Freemasonry in the partition of Poland, aroused wide applause in Catholic-nationalist circles (especially Jędrzej Giertych), but also controversy not only for ideological but for scientific reasons (among others. Adam Skałkowski and Marian Kukiel); in fact, it was an essay written in an exquisite rococo stylized style, based on hypotheses, and even a prominent historian associated with the national camp, Wladyslaw Konopczynski, reproached M. for turning conjectures too categorically into certainties. In the 1930s, M. concentrated entirely on the fight against Freemasonry.
