The exhibition, presented at the branch of the Museum of Independence - the Museum of the 10th Pavilion of the Warsaw Citadel, in the Gallery of Historical Painting from January 18 to April 18, 2023, accompanies the celebration of the 160th anniversary of the outbreak of the January Uprising, which takes place at our museum facility. It should be added that the Mazovian Parliament has established 2023 as the Year of the January Uprising at the request of the Museum of Independence.

"The exhibition is the story of how one of the witnesses and singers of the history of the January Uprising fostered patriotism in Poles and taught them history through paintings (...). The works gathered in this small exhibition are watercolors, prints and drawings, as well as books. The artist, who dreamed of being seen as a great Polish historical painter, has gone down in history more as a cartoonist and illustrator, and author of publications with patriotic content. So we decided to present what is most valuable from the rich patriotic legacy of Walery Eljasz-Radzikowski and shows his importance for history," explains the exhibition's curator Malgorzata Karolina Piekarska.

The presented catalog contains illustrations of most of the works by Walery Eljasz-Radzikowski included in the exhibition. They come from the collections of the Museum of Independence and were obtained through cooperation with other museums.
