Very good condition. Richly illustrated catalogs of Czeslaw Zuber's exhibitions.
Czeslaw Zuber "was born in 1948 in Przybylowice. In 1974 he graduated from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. Since 1982, he has lived and worked in Paris.
From 1975 to 1979 he was a designer at the "Barbara" Art Glassworks in Polanica. As noted by Prof. Małgorzata Dajewska (doctoral thesis supervisor), already at that time "he made very innovative attempts at abstract, sculptural solutions in the area of colored blown glass, which with their form and expression differed significantly from the stereotype of glassmaking. Interesting intentional objects were created at the time, which referred to the socio-political situation of the time." The effect of moving to Paris was, among other things, the artist's contact with blocks of optical glass (produced for the army), as well as the neo-expressionist work of the "New Wild." On them Czeslaw Zuber based his later work, putting into it "intense emotions, expression, deep thoughts and apt, pictorial, often emphatic comments. (...) the abandonment of metallurgical techniques in favor of large-format masses sculpturally elaborated and covered with multicolored reliefs with a painterly effect led to the distinctive (...) creative face of the artist." (Prof. M. Dajewska)
Czeslaw Zuber's creative interests go beyond activity in the visual arts. While still a student, in 1967 he began to act as an actor in the student Mime Theater "Gest", with which he worked until 1975. In 1976-1980 he was associated with the theater "Laboratorium" of Jerzy Grotowski, participating in many paratheatrical projects.
Czeslaw Zuber presented his glass sculptures in more than 40 solo exhibitions, including at: District Museum in Jelenia Gora in 1981, Galerie Artitude in Paris in 1985, Galerie Trois in Geneva in 1987, Galerie D.M. Sarver in Paris in 1989, Heller Gallery in New York in 1992, Yokohama Museum of Art in 1995, National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia in 2004, Art Symbol Gallery in Paris in 2010, 2011 and 2013. His works have received worldwide recognition. They are in the collections of many prestigious museums, including The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, Museum of Art & Design in New York, Kunstmuseum in Düsseldorf, National Museum in Wroclaw, Musée des Arts Décoratifs et Fonds National d'Art Contemporain in Paris, The National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, Musée de Design et d'Arts Appliqués Contemporains in Lausanne.
The artist is the winner of an honorable mention at the National Exhibition of Unique and Industrial Glass in Katowice in 1979, an honorable mention at the Coburger Glasspreis exhibition in Coburg, Germany, in 1985, the Gold Medal in the American Inter Faith Institute competition in Philadelphia, USA, in 1992. In 1980, he received an art scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture and Art, in 1987 an art scholarship from the French Ministry of Culture and Art. In 2013, for his artistic achievements, Czeslaw Zuber was awarded the Bronze Medal "Meritorious to Culture Gloria Artis" by the Minister of Culture and Art.
He received an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw in 2016." (ASP in Wroclaw website).
