Issue 1.
"In 1944, at the behest of the government-in-exile in London, Karski wrote 'The Secret State' (Story of a Secret State) after an unsuccessful attempt to make a film about his mission. The book was published in Boston in November 1944 and made a furor in the US. Only from it did Americans learn about the struggle and suffering of the Poles, the role of the underground state, and the extermination of the Jews. The American press evaluated the book enthusiastically. 'The Secret State' quickly became a bestseller, and its sales reached 400,000 pieces" (Wikipedia).
J. Karski (1914-2000) - underground activist, courier and emissary of the authorities of the Polish Underground State, after the war settled in the USA.
