Benedykt Herbest was a Polish Jesuit, writer, literary scholar and educator, active during the Renaissance. He was the author of works on the life and works of Cicero and a commentary on the eclogue of Gregory of Sambor. His works were characterized by elements of Counter-Reformation thinking, i.e. the abandonment of intellectualistic biblical deductions, the use of dilemmas, etc. He was among the Jesuits who influenced the development of Polish literature.
