Karel Václav Rais (1859-1926) was a Czech writer and teacher, best known for his work focusing on the rural environment of the Podkrkonoší and Hlinecko regions. His works often reflect the everyday life of rural inhabitants and their problems. Among his most important works are the novels "Výminkáři" (1891), "Kalibův zločin" (Kaliba's Crime) (1895) and "Zapadlí patrienci" (1894).
