Bartłomiej Groicki(born 1519 or 1534 in Rzeszów; died 1605. in Cracow) - a bourgeois of Cracow, an expert on laws used in the Polish state (Speculo Saxonum, Iure Municipali, theCrown Statute) and abroad (Constitutio Criminalis Carolina) and a promoter and translator of these laws from Latin into Polish. Probably a graduate of the Krakow Academy - he was on good terms with Decius. Around 1550, he was a teacher of the children of Cracow councilor Erasmus Banck. Between 1567 and 1573 he served as a scribe in the royal customs chamber of Krakow. Before 1567 and from 1573 he was a scribe at the Higher Court of German Law in Cracow. Periodically he also served as a doublet. In his spare time, he translated poetry, and may also have written his own poems.
We present a reprint of his work showing aspects of law in 16th-century Poland, which is both interesting and fascinating reading.
