Estr. XV-XVIII, 18, 262 - History of Galicia from the earliest times. According to the author's original intention, the work was to appear in three volumes and also include a separately treated history of the Wieliczka and Bochnia salinas. Hoppe set about writing his work immediately after the first partition of the Republic, as a result of which the salinas fell to Austria. As an extremely "palatable" prize, they were an object of special interest to the Habsburgs - from now on, instead of the Polish king's pocket, they were to feed the budget of the imperial crown. Hoppe, however, did not finalize his intention - only the first of three planned volumes was published.
The author himself was the newly appointed headmaster of the old Bochnia municipal school, now renamed Kreisschule. It functioned as a branch of the University of Cracow until it was closed down in 1817, when the Austrian invaders founded a three-class lower secondary school in its place. In the preface, he writes that he collected materials during a nine-month stay in Galicia. His first source was Dlugosz. He visited libraries in Krakow and Tyniec, as well as in Lvov and Vienna, where he used Hungarian yearbooks. He drew from Naruszewicz and from Gebhardi. He begins the work with the history of Sarmatia and Rus.
