St. HIERONIM wrote Letter 22 (On the Preservation of Virginity - De virginitate servanda) in Rome in late 383 or early 384 and addressed it to EUSTOCHIUM, daughter of St. Paula, a Roman aristocrat. The writing is a treatise on Christian virginity preserved for the sake of Christ and the Kingdom of Heaven. At the same time, it is a presentation and apologia of Christian monastic life. It was written at a time when there was no shortage of opponents of this kind of life consecrated to God.
