Of particular note is The Hare. This 1898 novel, which describes a year in the life of a hairless hare that is constantly on the run from wolves, dogs and hunters, is considered the pinnacle of Polish naturalism. It shows, through the parallelism of the life of the titular hare and the man who hunts it, the strict determinism of the natural and human worlds, as well as the similarity of the two worlds, which are governed by essentially the same laws. Every living being experiences pain, fear, love, loneliness.... whether a commoner or a court shooter," argues Dygasinski in this charming poetic parallel.
