It will be discussed here different variants of one and the same idea, according to which writing and literary work enable other than physical presence of people physically absent either due to spatial remoteness or especially as a result of biological death. This presence can come off as a pure metaphor, a stylistic embellishment that cannot be taken literally. Indeed, it is - at least in its origins - only a synonym for fame, which, after all, the physically present and living can and often do enjoy.
