The Eighteenth Decisive Battle of Warsaw 1920 in the History of the World is a famous book in which Lord d`Abernon expands the list of fifteen landmark battles in world history created by E.S. Creasy to include three more. The last of these - the Battle of Warsaw - the author had the opportunity to observe up close. It is to it that his personal diary, included in this book, is dedicated, along with his conclusions and observations, supplemented by the statements of the great commanders Pilsudski and Tukhachevsky. The direct observations of a foreign diplomat are undoubtedly a valuable and reliable source of knowledge about the Battle of Warsaw, after all, referred to as the "Miracle on the Vistula."
The author was financial advisor to the government of Egypt from 1883 to 1889, governor of the Bank of Ottoman from 1889 to 1897, a member of the House of Commons from 1899 to 1906, ambassador to Berlin from 1920 to 1926, and a member of the Inter-Soviet Mission to Poland in 1920.
