CZESZKO Bohdan - Pokolenie. Warsaw 1951; Czytelnik. 8, pp. 246, [1]. broch.
Small trace of moisture on last page, otherwise very good condition. 1st edition. cover by Jerzy Jaworowski. "Pokolenie" by Czeszka is "a wartime fresco showing the coming of age of Warsaw's youth from the working-class Wola district, their involvement in the struggle in the ranks of the AL and GL, the wartime Gehenna, difficult choices, and the bitterness of the defeat of the Warsaw Uprising. Although the novel was published at the apogee of Stalinism, it is not a typical socialist realist novel. Czeszka managed to write in her own language, create her own original style and endow the portrayed people and times with authenticity [...]. Years later, however, the novel was accused of negatively portraying soldiers from the Home Army and NSZ and of reproducing untruths about the Katyn crime" (culture.pl). "Chekhov's book is partisan. It is partisan not only in its consciousness, it is partisan in its moral passion" (J. Kott in New Culture).
