First edition. author's memoirs of his stay in the USSR from the signing of the Sikorski-Stalin pact in VII 1941 to the departure of Polish Army units to Iran (VIII 1942). The main plot is the search for the missing prisoners of war from the camps in Starobielsk, Kozielsk and Ostashkov.
J. Czapski (1896-1993) - painter, art critic, publicist, prose writer. Co-founder of the Kapists group, editor of the "Voice of the Artists", during the war a prisoner of Starobielsk, left the territory of the USSR with the Anders Army. After the war he settled permanently in Paris.
