A book recounting the activities of scouts during World War II in the capital. Contains authentic letters sent during the days of the Warsaw Uprising. Written by Jerzy Kasprzak, a scoutmaster.
The author , on August 1, 1944, at the outbreak of the "W" hour, was carrying a report from the Headquarters of the Scouts at 5 Barska St. to the Headquarters of the Grey Regiments at 44 Wilcza St. Captured by the enemy on August 3, 1944. Directed with the Polish population to the Gestapo headquarters on Szucha Avenue. There he was disguised by fellow inmates as a girl and hidden among women, which allowed him to avoid being shot. On August 5, 1944, he escaped the Germans and from then on hid in the ruins of a destroyed tenement house at 35 Marszalkowska St. On August 18 he broke through to 41 Wilcza St., where the Scouts' Field Post Office was operating. He was assigned to the Zawiszak "Western Lands" troop (a stall at 13 Hoza St.), which served the South Downtown Field Post Office Branch on Wilcza St. He performed the tasks of letter carrier, liaison officer, scout and supply officer.
