Chodźko Ignacy (1794-1861), Polish novelist. Studied at the philosophical department of Vilnius University. Worked as a clerk, then farmed the family estate of Dziewiętnie. He was close to the ideals of the Enlightenment.
In 1840 he began series I of Lithuanian Pictures (series II-V, 1843-1850, VI-1862), which includes both novels, which were popular at the time, such as Memoirs of a Quaestor, and other prose works. Also Pictures showing the customs of noble manors in the 18th-19th centuries.
He created a specific genre of moral and historical novel, the so-called nobleman's storytelling, written colorfully and vividly. He published Lithuanian Podania (series I-IV, 1852-1860), Writings (volumes 1-3, 1880-1881), Selection of Writings (1903).
Rare in complete and publisher's binding. Unobtainable in this condition!
Condition BDB-/ minor rubbing of edges and scratches of binding surfaces, paraphrase with date inscribed in pencil on title page of all pieces, BEAUTIFUL EXEMPTION.
