BYSTROŃ Jan St[anisław] - History of customs in old Poland. Century XVI-XVIII. Vol. 1-2. Warsaw [1933-1934]. Księg. Trzaska, Evert and Michalski. 8, pp. [10], 469, [1], plate 32; [10], 575, [1], plate 32. Bound in patchy original fl. gilt, upper trims gilt.
Slight rubbing of bindings, Slight rubbing of cloth at edges of spine of vol. 2, inside states very good. Binding of vol. 1 publisher richly gilt in light beige with maroon slipcase, vol. 2 publisher richly gilt in green with maroon slipcase. Very numerous illustrations in the text. Panorama of the social, family, political and military life of the 17th and 18th centuries based on an analysis of works of Old Polish literature.
J. S. Bystroń (1892-1964) - ethnographer and sociologist, professor at universities in Poznan, Krakow and Warsaw, member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Author of almost 40 books. Outstanding, though controversial scholar.
