" A novel by Alexander Bronikowski (1783-1834), who wrote exclusively in German and whose almost all works were published in Polish translation. In his biography included in Walery Baginski's work, "Typy wiarusów napoleońskich", the author writes: "generous and unprincipled in spending, he often borrowed larger sums of money without any prospect of repayment, with the result that he sat for several or more months at a time in prison for debt, and it was there that he wrote the largest part of his novels."
