We present one of the first books treating this subject on the Polish market.
Legendary origins of go date back to more than 2,000 BC; documented evidence of the game's existence is later. The best-known account states that it was invented by Emperor Yao (2357-2255 B.C.), in order to educate his son Dan Zhu. In a history book titled Shibenzuopian (Chronicle. Applied Arts), which was written during the Age of Warring Kingdoms (403 - 221 BC.), records that "Emperor Yao invented weiqi so that Dan Zhu would learn goodness" (in Poland, well-known go popularizer Jan Lubos wrote the fable On the Origins of Go based on this legend ). The first documented references to the game of Yi (the original Chinese name weiqi) date only from theZhou Dynasty (1122-221 BC).
The work of renowned Chinese historian Ban Gu (30-92 BC) Yi Zhi (The Essence of Go) is considered the first textbook for learning go. Along with Chinese teachers of the go script, it reached Japan (5th-VII century).
