BRANDYS Marian - Expedition to Artek. Notes from a trip to the USSR. Warsaw 1953, Nasza Księgarnia. 8, pp. 155, [2], plates 16. pp. binding.
Tear to spine, ca. slightly rubbed. Illustrated by Zbigniew Rychlicki. "Nikolai Ostrovsky speaks to the youth. He says what Soviet boys and girls should be. And suddenly - the little pioneer standing in front of me raises his hand to his forehead in a pioneer salute. His lips tremble slightly, his darkened eyes are wide open. And the young joyful voice of the man who conquered death lights up our hearts with the heat of his words: 'A man should burn. He who does not burn, digs. This is the law. May the flame of life be saluted!". The writer became involved with the democratic opposition in the late 1970s, and was a signatory of protest letters to the communist authorities.
