On the opening pages the birth and death dates of the von Schmettow family. The entries show that the bible was owned by Gräfin Valeska Jettine Leontine Marie Pauline Anna von Schmettow (1881 - 1961).

Hardcover, full leather with gilt and embossing on the cover. Embossed information about the creator of the binding in the lower part of the front and back cover. Rubbing of the spine edges, gilt page edges. Overall condition very good.

*Robert Grassmann (born March 8, 1815 in Stettin ; died August 14, 1901 in Stettin; full name : Siegfried Robert Ludolf Grassmann ) was a German publisher and writer .

Grassmann was born in Stettin , where his father, mathematician Justus Günther Grassmann , was a teacher at the United Royal and City High School .

Together with his brother Hermann Grassmann , he founded the conservative newspaper Norddeutsche Zeitung , which published a daily newspaper in 1848. Robert Graßmann resigned from his teaching job and devoted himself to developing a publishing and printing business, while Hermann Graßmann soon took off again.

In 1865 he founded Stettiner Anzeiger , renamed Pommersche Zeitung in 1866, also Stettiner Zeitung in 1865, and Stettiner Tageblatt in 1877 ; all three newspapers were published until 1910.

In 1871, the publishing house was joined by his son Gustav Grassmann (* 1846; † 1930), who took over the reins after his father's death. From 1872 to 1890 Grassmann served as a city councilman in Stettin . In the Reichstag elections of 1878, he successfully supported the National-Liberal candidate Albert Schlutow , who was re-elected in 1881. Grassmann fought both the Liberals , and the Social Democrats . In 1887 he welcomed the expulsion from Stettin of Fritz Herbert , leader of the Social Democratic People's Party of Stettin . Grassmann was a versatile writer. Among other things, he published mathematical works, a ten-volume philosophical system and polemics against the Roman Catholic Church. "
