Karol Józef Badecki (born January 28, 1886 in Lviv, died February 10, 1953 in Krakow) - Polish literary historian, librarian, researcher of the history of Lviv.
For several decades he remained associated with the Lviv City Archives - he was initially a researcher (1914-1916), then an archivist (1916-1920), deputy director (1920-1937), and finally director (1937-1944). Taking into account the requirements of modern archival science, he modernized the Archive and greatly enriched its library. In 1937 he defended his habilitation and obtained the title of associate professor of the history of Polish literature at the Faculty of Humanities of Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv. In 1938, at UJK, he extended his habilitation to include archival and library science. In 1937-1944 he was also director of the Historical Museum of the City of Lviv. In 1944 he became senior librarian of the Ivan Franko University Library in Lviv.
In 1945, as a result of the forced expulsion of Poles from Lviv, he moved to Krakow. He took up a job at the Jagiellonian University, and became head of the Jagiellonian Library's book collections; among other things, he took care of sorting out the materials brought to the Jagiellonian Library in the first years after World War II. In 1948 he became a titular professor at the Jagiellonian University, at the same time he moved to Wroclaw for two years as director of the Library of the Ossoline National Institute. From 1950 he was curator of the Jagiellonian Library. He gave lectures on library science and archival science at the university. [bio after wikipedia.pl]"
