The volume is preceded by a letter from Kazimierz Wyka to Jan Bugaj, in which the well-known critic speaks enthusiastically about the poet's work, equating Baczynski's poetic talent with that of Juliusz Slowacki. The letter was published in Monthly Literary Magazine in June 1943. The volume was compiled from manuscripts in safekeeping at the home of Porta's mother, Stefania Baczynski. The poet used to write the pure types of his works in special notebooks in his mother's possession. The first of these notebooks, written down in full, contains 174 works from 1939 to 1942 (up to I. XI), while the second, written down in part, contains 53 items from 1942 to 1944 (up to 13. VII). The poet dated each poem precisely, giving the day and month of writing. The division into cycles, the titles of the cycles, their sequence and the arrangement of the works within the cycles were made jointly by Professor K. Wyka and the poet's mother.
