JAN MATEJKO ALBUM
Jan Matejko is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding Polish painters, considered the founder of historical painting. The artist enjoyed extraordinary recognition in the country, both for his artistic and patriotic activities. In 1876, an album was published by Salomon Leventhal, showing virtually all of Matejko's works that saw the light of day before that date. We present a reproduction of that Album by Jan Matejko, along with contemporary descriptions by Kazimierz Władysław Wójcicki. In the second part of the publication we present contemporary reproductions of Jan Matejko's paintings - selecting for publication also those less known, as well as photographs of polychromes made according to the artist's designs.
