The fourth edition (first in 1727) of the Author's most famous text, reprinted many times and translated into various languages until the mid-19th century. Pierre Chompre (1698-1760), a French educator, teacher and translator from Latin, prepared a dictionary of fair y tales for fairy tale writers and connoisseurs of the genre, showing mainly the characters who appear in and create fairy tales.

Period binding, full leather in medium condition with minimal rubbing and minor losses, especially at the edges; spine embossed and gilt with title and geometric-plant designs, but also with rubbing; interior in db condition, occasionally stained but dry; numerous notes on the endpapers; handwritten and stamped ex-libris of Countess de Salis on the title page; overall db condition.
