POEM in pictures. Scen. and drawings by Dino Buzzati. [Issue of the monthly magazine "Literatura na Świecie" containing a comic strip]. Warsaw, XII 1977. 16d, p. 368. broch.
Good condition. Issue 12 (80) of 1977, devoted in large part to Buzzati, Italian novelist, playwright and publicist. A sample of his artistic talents is presented on pp. 31-128, containing an extensive excerpt (more than half of the Italian original) from his famous comic strip "Poema a fumetti," which was given the title "Poem in Pictures" in our country. In a critical commentary printed in the same issue, E. Kabatc wrote: "through a seemingly simple story a smuggling operation is carried out here, a noble attempt to smuggle across the boundary of convention a profound content, surpassing the common pleasures of word and picture, a playful interpretation of old myths." Buzzati published his "Poem" in 1969, which puts him among the forerunners of experimental comics. And although today the great Italian's formal treatments do not impress the reader, it is important to appreciate the role he played in the evolution of European comics. The issue of "Literature in the World" discussed here, moreover, contains a redrawn story by Miroslaw Malcharek, "The Persecutor Bear" by Buzzati, taken from this author's last book (who died in 1972), titled "The Bear of the Persecutor". "I miracoli di Val Mortel".
