"From the memoirs emerges a picture of the life of the landed gentry of those years, the dignities and offices held, the merits for the country, the building of a powerful agricultural economy based on modern solutions.A beautiful picture of the daily life of the landed gentry in Kiev and Podolia at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century emerges. The author recalls the mood and atmosphere of that time, family customs, games, great celebrations, work, hunting and travel. The book is richly illustrated with family photos and portraits, the vast majority of which were irretrievably lost during the revolutionary period. For Leon Lipkowski, the main addressee of his memoirs was his family and closest circle of friends - he wrote them down "for future generations of the family and in memory of parents, siblings and friends," adding: "may this book, while honoring the memory of those dear to us, give future generations an incentive to get to know each other and take an interest in the fate of their relatives. This will save many from losing connection with their family in exile and thus contribute to its prosperity." Only part of his memoirs is devoted to autobiography, while most of the space is taken up by family chronicles and stories about closer and further relatives, neighbors and acquaintances.
In order to better show the picture of the families (houses, manors and palaces) among which the author grew up and lived for more than half a century, in the book, instead of a chronological arrangement, he used a geographical division into individual estates - family seats."
