ORWELL George - 1984 - A novel. Translated from the English by Juliusz Mieroszewski. Paris 1953. literary institute. 16d, pp. 254, [1]. Wrapp. pp. with preserved booklet cover. Bibliot. "Culture", vol. 2.
Cover broch. and frontispiece dusty, otherwise good condition. On the preface card: "The year one thousand nine hundred and eighty-four". First Polish edition of Orwell's visionary book. The novel was written in 1949, was translated into nearly 70 languages. In Poland, it functioned in the form of second-circulation reprints of the Paris edition (from the late 1970s), and was not officially published for the first time until 1988. Orwell evocatively depicted a world subordinated entirely to one ideology, which eliminated any individual freedom. The novel's anti-totalitarian pronouncement meant that the book was banned from publication in satellite countries of the USSR. "1984" is one of the most important novels of 20th century world literature.
