The coat of arms of King Stanislaw Leszczynski of Poland [(White Eagle, Lithuanian Pogo, and in the center a buffalo's head (Wieniawa coat of arms)] is included on all 7 title pages and 7 vignettes. In the first volume an extensive dedication by the publisher (Pierre Antoine) to the King of Poland. Trevoux's dictionary was first published in 1704. The work is a kind of synthesis of lexicographical works from the 16th and 17th centuries. The authors are Jesuits from Trevoux, whose exact identity is unknown. News of many historical, philosophical, literary or other sources are included. The Lorraine edition is a luxury edition and was created as a tribute to the King of Poland Stanislaus Leszczynski Duke of Lorraine and Bar.Volume 1 is missing 2 pages (pp. 153-160), brown leather binding, gilt lettering on spines and signboards with titling, binding abrasions, page edges stained. Good condition.
