Stoneware plaque, with a white relief representation on a dark blue background: an allegorical scene is inscribed in a thin slatted frame laced with ribbons and ribbon - a seated woman in a long robe, embraces and hugs a girl standing next to her.
The plaque was made using the Phanolith technique, combining features of porcelain with pâte sur pâte decoration and English Wedgwood jasper stoneware; the technology, which allows serial production while retaining handmade features, was developed in the late 19th century by Jean Baptiste Stahl, an artist-technologist employed by Villeroy & Boch.
