Prominent local browning of paper, minor stains. Pearls of Old Polish crassness, selected and with an introduction by an eminent expert on the subject. The volume consists of three volumes of the Polish Library. The volume contains a collection of 43 most outstanding Old Polish speeches, arranged chronologically, including those of Kazimierz Jagiellończyk, Zygmunt August, Stefan Batory, Jan Kazimierz, Stanisław August as well as Jan Tarnowski, Andrzej Tęczyński, Jan Zamojski, Stanisław Żółkiewski, Jakub Sobieski, Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, Ignacy Potocki, Hugon Kołłątaj. They relate to various situations - including the opening of the Zamojska Academy, the marriage of Sigismund Augustus, and the abdication of Jan Kazimierz.
A. Malecki (1821-1913) - literary historian, medievalist, rector of the University of Lviv, associated with the Ossolineum. In an extensive introduction, he discusses the texts presented and introduces Old Polish customs of crassness at weddings and other secular celebrations. He includes a two-page bibliography of Old Polish collections of "Sejm and secular speeches in general."
