Biography
Studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under Artur Nacht-Samborski and Jozef Pakulski between 1949 and 1955. Even before receiving his diploma, he became a member of ZPAP in recognition of a series of non-figurative works. These were large format canvases using paints mixed with cement or sand, creating almost three-dimensional structures. His paintings also influenced the form of lithography, to which the artist has mainly devoted himself since 1958.In 1963 he moved permanently to the US, where since 1972 he has been a full professor of painting in the Department of Art at College Park of Maryland State University. He is also a member of the senate of the same university. His works are in the collections of leading museums around the world, including New York's Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum in Warsaw, the National Central Institute of Art in Beijing and Tianjin, the Albertina Museum in Vienna, the National Library of France, the National Museum in Ottawa, and the San Francisco Museum of Art. His main object of interest is multicolor, rainbow-printed lithography, the so-called Split Color or Rainbow.
