Colorful print depicts mighty knights riding to the tournament of Maximilian I of Habsburg - Roman Emperor and King of Germany, one of the main creators of the power of the House of Habsburg.
The graphic was based on a medieval woodcut by a certain Hans Burkmair the elder, who worked for the emperor along with Albrecht Altdorfer and Albrecht Dürer and together created the Triumph of Maximilian woodcut series in the late 15th century. This version was printed in G. Grote'sche Verlagsbuchhandlung, one of the great German publishing houses of the turn of the century.
Our knights are made using chromolithography, a color lithography technique used in the 19th century. Each color on the multicolored print was obtained from a different lithographic plate, including intricate gilding and silvering of armor and horse-crop elements. The print is framed in a gray passe partout frame, and in a wooden frame and glass.
