tempera on board, brass cover, silver-plated, tribulated, engraved; 32 x 27 cm.
Russia, Moscow; 18th century (painting); early 19th century (cover).
Image of Christ - the Savior of the World, the "Vsesyretitel", in canonical frontal view; right hand in a blessing gesture, with fingers arranged in the shape of Greek letters depicting Christ's monogram: "IC XC." The arrangement of the fingers also reads as the duality of Christ's nature - divine and human. This is also emphasized by the color of the robes: red represents the majesty and harmony of all that is earthly, and blue represents all that is heavenly. On his knees, Christ supports with his left hand a sphere - an earthly globe topped with a cross.
The cover is made of brass plate, with a radial nimbus and a bordure of floral motifs.
