The icon's border is covered with linen and faded fabric embroidered in geometric motifs.
The name Haralampos means "shining with happiness" in Greek. Bishop of Magnesia in Asia Minor, he suffered martyrdom during the reign of Emperor Septimius Severus. As the patron saint of the Eastern Church, he is invoked during famines and epidemics of infectious diseases - plague, cholera; also diseases of cattle.
