Icon - Hodegetria type, from Greek: "Pointing the Way." The Hodegetria in these images is the Mother of God, who points with a gesture of her hand to Jesus Christ as the way to the Father. However, in the icon of Our Lady of Kazan, Mary is shown in a half pose, without hands, with her head framed in slight profile and slightly inclined toward the Child.
Above the Mother of God in the cartouche is the monogram MP OY (abbreviation of the Greek words MHTHP OEOY - Mother of God).
Repoussed silver cover, decorated with floral motif, signed at the lower edge (pr. 84 silver, goldsmith's monogram, Moscow city mark, date 1835).
