Tempera on board; two claws; 56 x 42.3 x 3.4 cm.
Russia, 20th century.
Image of the Virgin Mary in Hodegetria type - with the Child held on her knees on the left. A "third" hand is visible at the bottom of the image; this is connected with the legend of St. John of Damascus, punished by Emperor Leo III cutting off his hand for alleged conspiracy. The hand was reunited with the arm through Mary's intercession.
On the bordure of the painting - a glue with figures of saints - John the Baptist, Procopius, Paraskieva.
