Czech Republic, Brno, United Factories of Arts and Crafts (known as UP Zavody), 1960s.
Spojené uměleckoprůmyslové závody (UP Zavody) in Brno, founded in 1918, was an important Czechoslovak furniture manufacturer. From 1930 to 1955, the chief furniture designer was Jindřich Halabala, an architect, theoretician, publicist and educator whose designs influenced the interiors of Czech and Slovak homes in the interwar and postwar periods. The "Spider" table is one of his most famous designs, designed in 1959 and mass-produced in various variations in form and material at UP Zavody in Brno in the 1960s.
