The only story in Polish literature entirely devoted to craftsmen. Tomasz Barilkiewicz, marrying his wife, received a dowry of several hundred guilders. Thanks to this he was able to get an education, receive the title of foreman and open his own workshop. His career in the guild develops at a rapid pace, but as he becomes more successful, Barilkevich is more and more willing to outsource work to journeymen, and reaches for a glass himself.... Another craftsman, Jedrzej Dyl dreams of his sons being able to break out of the craftsman class. One of them is on the right track - he gets an education as a lawyer, while the other, against his father's wishes, stays loyal to the craft. Which of the brothers chose the right path? The answer may be surprising.
