Worm - a relic: the alpine gurnard (Crenobia alpina) is a tiny (max. 18 mm), belonging to a primitive group of animals - flatworms - that requires crystal-clear, cool springs with almost constant temperature throughout the year. It occurred en masse in Europe during the Ice Ages. Nowadays it is found in cool springs and streams, which are already becoming scarce due to climate warming and droughts. In Poland it can still be found in the Carpathian Mountains, the Sudetes, the Pieniny Mountains and in the village of Sąspów, among others.
A drink of ice on crystal clear water is a luxury of the future.
