Biography
He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vilnius, and after the war continued his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, under the direction of Prof. Tymon Niesiolowski and Prof. Edward Kuczynski. He was a member of the Toruń Branch of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, as well as the "Toruń Group" art formation. In 1970, he received his habilitation at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdansk. In 1974-1984 he was director of the Artistic and Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, at the same time leading the painting studio. In the early 1990s, he was appointed associate professor at the UMK. Zygmunt Kotlarczyk presented his painting and graphic works at numerous individual and collective exhibitions at home and abroad. His works are in many museums and private collections in Poland, England, Russia and the USA, among others. He practiced monumental painting - creating frescoes, sgraffits, mosaics - and was involved in graphic art, primarily lithography.
