Biography
Prominent Polish children's book illustrator, graphic designer, poster artist, stage designer, Knight of the Order of the Smile. Winner of more than 20 international awards in the field of illustration, including the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award (1982), often called the Nobel of children's literature. For many years, he was director for artistic affairs of the Publishing Institute "Nasza Księgarnia". Author of the graphic design of the magazine "Teddy Bear", illustrator of the most recognizable titles of Polish and foreign literature: "From Things to Things" by Wanda Chotomska, "Please Elephant" by Ludwik Jerzy Kern, "Plastusiowy pamiętnik" by Maria Kownacka, "Gulliver's Travels" by Jonathan Swift, "Mysterious Island" by Juliusz Verne. He gained his greatest fame as the creator of the character of Uszatek the Bear, in a series of several books (since the 1960s) and in the popular evening cartoon produced in the 1970s and 1980s by the Studio of Small Film Forms (Se-ma-for).
