Biography
Painter, printmaker and poet. Half-brother of the poet, Kazimierz Przerwa Tetmajer. Graduated in philosophy and philology from Jagiellonian University. In 1882-1886, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow with W. Łuszczkiewicz, F. Cynk and L. Löffer and in 1889-1895 with J. Matejko. He supplemented his studies in Munich from 1886 to 1889 with A. Wagner and in Paris and Vienna (with C. Griepenkerkel). In 1980 he married A. Mikolajczykówna; in 1895 he settled in Bronowice, a village near Cracow. He belonged to TAP "Art" and the "Zero" group. Since 1901, he ran a painting school for women. He painted mainly genre scenes, often depicting the folklore of Podkarpackie villages. He also created polychromes, in which he combined a folk motif with Art Nouveau styling. He also illustrated books and designed stained glass windows.
